Copperhead girls stay perfect at home with 51-39 win over Corvallis

With a fully-healthy team for the first time all year, Anaconda looked their best.
Tied at 16 after one Anaconda pulled away late in the third and never looked back, dropping Southwestern A Corvallis 51-39 to stay perfect at home Friday night at Memorial Gymnasium.
In a balanced offensive output that had all but one Copperhead who played scored led by senior Sydnie Peterson’s game-high 20. Senior Johannah Forsberg, who was playing in her first game of the season, and freshman Megan Reich each had eight and Isabell Saltenberger had five including the only three-point basket of the night for the ‘Heads.
But even more impressive was the defense. Giving up a significant height advantage, Anaconda used quickness and their new-found health to pressure Corvallis into uncomfortable offensive sets and in transition.
Corvallis’ 6-foot-3 sophomore post Isabel Evans was held to just one field goal all night and only one player, Callie Haldorson, hit double figures. Haldorson’s 17 led the team, but only five points came in the second half.
Also scoring for Anaconda was Arieona Mattson and Logan Stetzner with four each and Claire Miller with two.
The Copperheads (3-5, 1-1) will take on Florence on the road in a 6B league game tomorrow afternoon.
